Birth Control Counseling in Oak Lawn That Starts With You Not a Default Prescription
Finding a provider who actually listens before recommending anything is harder than it should be. At Serenity Choice Health, that conversation is the foundation of every contraceptive visit. Before any method is discussed as a recommendation, our licensed Illinois providers take time to understand the full picture your current health conditions, your hormonal history, any methods that have not worked for you in the past, how your daily schedule looks, and whether your reproductive goals have shifted recently or are likely to shift ahead.
Oak Lawn residents who come to us are not handed a prescription at the end of a five-minute visit. They leave with a method that was matched to their specific clinical profile, a clear explanation of why it was chosen, a same-day prescription when appropriate, and a follow-up plan that keeps their care active over time. Contraceptive health does not stop at the initial appointment and neither do we.

Contraceptive Method Switching

Does Insurance Cover These Services?
Most preventive contraceptive services including counseling visits and prescription contraceptives are covered without out-of-pocket cost under the Affordable Care Act when provided by an in-network licensed provider. Our billing team reviews your specific plan benefits before your appointment so there are no surprises when you arrive.
We accept Illinois Medicaid, which covers a broad range of contraceptive services at no cost for eligible patients. Uninsured patients are always welcome. We work with individuals to identify applicable financial assistance programs, community resources, and sliding-scale options that make contraceptive care accessible regardless of insurance status.
The Most Question We Got so Far
Still have questions? Reach out we’re just a message away.
I live in Oak Lawn — how far is your nearest clinic from me?
Our Chicago location at 1552 W 90th St is approximately 10 to 12 minutes from central Oak Lawn depending on traffic. Our Matteson clinic is roughly 20 minutes south via I-294. Both locations offer same-day scheduling, and telehealth appointments are available for eligible services including initial contraceptive consultations and prescription renewals.
Do I need to have a referral or existing relationship with your clinic to book a birth control consultation?
No referral is needed. New patients are seen for contraceptive consultations directly you do not need a prior relationship with our clinic or a referral from another provider. We welcome patients coming from other practices, those who have never seen a women’s health provider before, and anyone who has felt uncomfortable or dismissed at a previous clinic.
I have a medical condition that affects my hormonal health — can you still help me with birth control?
Yes. Patients with thyroid conditions, PCOS, endometriosis, hypertension, clotting disorders, and other conditions that interact with hormonal contraception are exactly the patients who benefit most from a thorough contraceptive consultation rather than a standard prescription. Our providers review your full medical and medication profile before recommending any method, and we coordinate with your primary care or specialist when appropriate.
What is the difference between a hormonal IUD and a non-hormonal IUD?
A hormonal IUD releases a low dose of progestin locally in the uterus to prevent pregnancy, typically reducing or eliminating periods over time. A non-hormonal IUD — commonly the copper IUD — works through a mechanism that does not involve hormones at all, making it an option for patients who want highly effective long-acting contraception without any hormonal exposure. We counsel on both in detail and discuss which is more appropriate given your health history and preferences.
Can I get telehealth birth control care if I cannot make it to the clinic in person?
Yes. Our licensed Illinois providers offer telehealth contraceptive consultations for eligible patients, including initial visits for certain methods and prescription renewals. Prescriptions from telehealth visits are sent directly to your preferred Oak Lawn-area pharmacy. Telehealth is not appropriate for all contraceptive needs IUD counseling that leads to placement, for example, requires an in-person visit — but for many patients it is a practical and fully clinical option.
