Contraceptive Care in Park Ridge That Starts With Listening Before Prescribing
A prescription written in five minutes based on age and nothing else isn’t a recommendation it’s a default. And defaults are why so many women end up cycling through methods that cause side effects they were never warned about, switching to something equally mismatched, or giving up on contraception management altogether.
At Serenity Choice Health, our licensed Illinois providers do not arrive at a recommendation before the conversation happens. We learn how your body has responded to hormones before, what conditions or medications intersect with your available options, what your daily life realistically looks like, and where you want your reproductive health to be in one year and five years. What comes out of that conversation is a method built around your biology and your life backed by same-day prescribing, consistent follow-up, and a provider who remains accessible when questions come up between visits.

Our Birth Control & Contraceptive Services
First-Time Contraceptive Counseling
Your first birth control visit should leave you informed, not overwhelmed. We walk through every option relevant to your health profile what each involves in practice, what to realistically expect and let you make a confident decision without pressure or a predetermined answer waiting at the end.
Oral Contraceptive
Not every pill is the same, and the wrong formulation is usually why women give up on it. We review your hormonal history, sensitivities, and health profile to match you to the right pill not just the one most providers reach for first.
Hormonal Non-Pill Methods
The patch, vaginal ring, and hormonal injection each have different real-world requirements and hormonal profiles. We explain what each actually demands in daily life before any recommendation is made because knowing what you’re agreeing to matters.
Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) Counseling
For patients who want effective protection without daily or monthly management, long-acting options change the equation entirely. We counsel thoroughly on hormonal IUDs, copper IUDs, and subdermal implants covering real differences, honest expectations, and what the adjustment period looks like then coordinate placement when you’re ready.
Emergency Contraception Consultation
Fast, accurate, judgment-free. We offer same-day telehealth and in-person consultations to walk you through your options based on your cycle timing and how much time has passed so you get a real answer when it actually matters.
Contraceptive Method Switching
If you’ve been told to live with side effects that are making your current method unworkable, we reassess properly. Mood changes, disrupted cycles, headaches, and low libido are clinical signals worth investigating not the unavoidable cost of being on birth control.
Common Symptoms & Situations Patients Come to us
- Side effects from a current method that a previous provider attributed to something other than the method
- First-time contraceptive counseling that goes beyond a generic handout and a rushed appointment
- Interest in long-acting options with a real explanation before making a decision that lasts years
- Emergency contraception guidance when timing is too important to leave to a voicemail
- A current pill that used to work well and no longer does with no clear explanation from the prescribing provider
- Contraceptive management alongside an existing chronic condition or prescription medication
- Switching methods without restarting the clinical conversation from the beginning
- Renewal visits where the provider actually asks how the method is sitting before refilling it
- Non-hormonal alternatives evaluated honestly and without bias toward hormonal methods
- Reproductive planning conversations that connect where you are now to where you want to be
What Your Visit Includes?
Every contraceptive consultation is structured to give you the information you need to make a decision you’ll feel confident about:
- A full review of your personal and family health history, current medications, and any prior experiences with contraception — including what worked and what didn’t
- An honest conversation about your daily routine, your cycle, and what level of method involvement is realistic for your life
- A clear explanation of every appropriate option, including ones you may not have been offered before
- Lab work or clinical screening ordered when your health profile calls for it
- Same-day prescribing for confirmed oral or hormonal methods following your consultation
- A structured follow-up plan and consistent access to the same provider going forward
You leave the appointment knowing what you’re using, why it fits your situation specifically, and exactly who to call if something changes.
Birth Control & Your Follow up
The right method at 24 is rarely the right method at 36. Reproductive goals shift, health conditions develop, and what was manageable in one chapter of life becomes unsustainable in another. We stay involved through:
- Regular method monitoring and prescription check-ins at clinically appropriate intervals
- Proactive side effect evaluation not waiting for things to reach a breaking point
- Method transitions handled without losing the clinical context we’ve already built together
- Reproductive life planning that keeps your contraceptive approach connected to your longer-term goals
- Full integration with women’s primary care so contraceptive health is never treated as an isolated concern
- Between-visit provider access for questions that are real, time-sensitive, and deserve more than a patient portal message

Insurance, Medicaid & Payment Options
Most insurance plans cover FDA-approved contraceptive methods and counseling under the Affordable Care Act, with many preventive contraceptive services available at no out-of-pocket cost. Our billing team confirms your exact benefits before your appointment so you know what to expect financially before you arrive, not after.
Uninsured patients are always welcome. We accept Medicaid and connect patients with financial assistance programs and community resources when coverage is a barrier. Access to contraceptive care should not depend on what your insurance card says.
The Most Question We Got so Far
Still have questions? Reach out we’re just a message away.
I've been on the same pill for years and recently started having symptoms I didn't used to have. Should I be concerned?
Yes, and it’s worth evaluating rather than assuming the symptoms are unrelated. Hormonal needs and sensitivities can shift over time a formulation that worked well for years may no longer be the right fit for where your body is now. We review your current prescription against your current experience and assess whether a change is warranted.
Can I get contraceptive counseling and a prescription in the same telehealth visit?
For oral and hormonal methods, yes in most cases. Telehealth consultations are structured to cover your full health history, discuss appropriate options, and issue a same-day prescription when indicated so you’re not scheduling a separate in-person visit just to receive a prescription you’ve already discussed.
I want a long-acting method but I'm nervous about placement. How do you handle that?
We cover placement honestly and specifically what the procedure involves, what you’ll feel, what the adjustment period looks like, and what pain management is available beforehand. You won’t be going into placement without a clear picture of what to expect, and we coordinate everything directly so you’re not managing multiple offices.
My migraines with aura mean certain methods aren't safe for me. Does that significantly limit my options?
It does narrow the field in specific ways, but effective options remain. Estrogen-containing methods carry additional risk for patients with migraines with aura, and we factor that into every recommendation. We work within those parameters to find something that provides reliable protection without adding to your clinical risk.
