Contraceptive Counseling in Des Plaines Built on Your History, Not a Default Recommendation
The gap between a prescription that works and one that doesn’t usually comes down to one thing how much the provider knew about you before writing it. A method chosen without reviewing your hormonal history, your current medications, your daily routine, or your reproductive goals isn’t a recommendation. It’s a guess with a pharmacy label on it.
At Serenity Choice Health, our licensed Illinois providers work through your complete clinical picture before anything is discussed. How your body has responded to hormones before. What conditions or medications could interact with available options. What you’re actually willing to manage day to day. What your reproductive plans look like over the next few years. The method that comes out of that conversation is one that fits and we follow it with same-day prescribing, structured check-ins, and a provider who stays available when questions come up between visits.

Our Birth Control & Contraceptive Services
First-Time Contraceptive Counseling
Starting birth control shouldn’t mean sorting through conflicting information alone. We walk you through every option that fits your health profile clearly and honestly no pressure toward any particular method, no rush past the questions you actually came in with.
Oral Contraceptive
The wrong pill formulation causes the side effects that make women abandon the pill entirely and it gets prescribed more often than it should. We review your hormonal history and health profile to match you to the right formulation, not just the most commonly written one.
Hormonal Non-Pill Methods
The patch, vaginal ring, and hormonal injection each work differently in practice adherence requirements, hormonal delivery, and interaction profiles all vary. We explain what each actually involves before recommending one, so you know what you’re agreeing to.
Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) Counseling
If managing birth control daily or monthly isn’t sustainable for your life, a long-acting option may be the answer. We counsel on hormonal IUDs, copper IUDs, and subdermal implants covering real differences, realistic expectations, and what adjustment looks like then coordinate placement when you’re ready.
Emergency Contraception Consultation
When timing matters, uncertainty makes everything worse. We offer same-day telehealth and in-person consultations to walk you through your options clearly, based on where you are in your cycle and how much time has passed without judgment and without delay.
Contraceptive Method Switching
Side effects you’ve been told to tolerate are often a signal that the method isn’t right for your biology. We assess what’s happening clinically and guide you through a transition that addresses the problem not just substitutes one prescription for another.

Insurance, Medicaid & Payment Options
Under the Affordable Care Act, most insurance plans are required to cover FDA-approved contraceptive methods and related counseling at no out-of-pocket cost. Our billing team reviews your specific plan benefits before your appointment so there are no surprises when you arrive. Coverage details vary by plan, and we walk you through what applies to your situation during scheduling.
Patients without insurance are always welcome. We accept Medicaid and connect uninsured patients with financial assistance programs and community resources because access to contraceptive care shouldn’t depend on your current coverage status.
The Most Question We Got so Far
Still have questions? Reach out we’re just a message away.
My doctor keeps refilling the same prescription without asking how I'm doing on it. Is that normal?
It’s common, but it shouldn’t be. A refill without a clinical review is a missed opportunity to catch what isn’t working. Every prescription renewal with us includes a check-in on how the method is actually sitting with your body and an adjustment when the answer isn’t good.
I've heard the IUD is painful to place. Is that something you prepare patients for?
Yes, honestly and specifically. We walk you through what placement involves, what to expect during and after, and what pain management options are available before any placement is scheduled. You won’t be going in without a clear picture of what the process actually looks like.
Can I discuss birth control over telehealth, or does this have to be in person?
Contraceptive counseling and oral or hormonal prescription visits work well over telehealth. Placement of long-acting devices requires an in-person visit, but the counseling that leads up to that decision can happen remotely. We’ll tell you upfront which parts of your care need an office visit.
I have migraines with aura. Does that limit my options?
It may, depending on the type and frequency. Estrogen-containing methods carry additional risk for patients with migraines with aura, and that risk needs to be factored into any recommendation. We review your full migraine history and health profile before making any suggestion and there are effective options that work safely within those parameters.
