Yes, you can absolutely begin the booking process or request an appointment on behalf of a friend, partner, or family member.
At Serenity Choice Health, we understand that stepping in to help handle the logistics—like finding a clinic, navigating the website, or filling out the initial paperwork—is a deeply meaningful way to support someone you care about.
While you can handle the initial submission, there are strict legal, privacy, and clinical rules regarding how the appointment is finalized and managed.
1. Rules for Booking on Behalf of Someone Else
To protect the patient’s legal rights and medical safety, please keep the following guidelines in mind when filling out our forms:
-
Use the Patient’s Real Information: The online form must be filled out using the pregnant person’s exact legal name, date of birth, and medical history. This information is required to establish an accurate Electronic Health Record (EHR) and ensure any future prescriptions match their identity.
-
Provide a Safe Contact Method: Our team will need to contact the patient to confirm the appointment, conduct the medical assessment, and verify consent. You can provide the patient’s direct phone number, or if they share a device with a controlling partner, you can input a specific, safe number or email address where they can be reached securely.
-
The Patient Must Give Direct Consent: While you can assist with the scheduling mechanics, a medical provider cannot perform an evaluation, prescribe abortion pills, or perform an in-clinic procedure without speaking directly to the patient. The patient must explicitly consent to the care themselves.
2. Managing Privacy and Bypassing Paper Trails
If the person you are helping needs absolute confidentiality from family members or a partner who monitors their accounts, we provide strict protections:
-
HIPAA Sealed Charting: The moment a chart is started in our system, it is legally locked under federal HIPAA privacy regulations. Even though you helped book the appointment, our clinic cannot share medical details, test results, or scheduling changes with you or anyone else without the patient’s explicit, written permission.
-
Bypassing the Insurance Footprint: If the patient is covered under a shared family health insurance plan and is terrified that an “Explanation of Benefits” (EOB) statement will be mailed to their home household, please advise them to select our flat out-of-pocket self-pay rates. This keeps the entire appointment completely off the commercial insurance grid.
-
Applying Financial Aid Grants: If the self-pay cost is a barrier for the person you are supporting, our care coordinators work directly with regional networks like the Chicago Abortion Fund. We can instantly apply direct financial grants to their patient file at checkout to cover or lower the cost.
3. How You Can Continue to Support Them
If you are acting as a support person, your help remains incredibly valuable throughout the care process:
-
For Telehealth (At-Home Care): You can help them set up a quiet, private space at home, pick up supportive groceries or heating pads, and stay with them to monitor their comfort while the medication works.
-
For In-Clinic Care: You are welcome to accompany them to our facility. While they will be called back alone for their private clinical evaluation and procedure to ensure medical safety, you can sit with them in the waiting lobby and ensure they have a safe, private ride home afterward.
We Are Here to Support You Both
