Two FDA-approved medications are used together to end a pregnancy: mifepristone and misoprostol. These tablets work in combination to safely terminate an early pregnancy (up to 10-11 weeks). You can get these medications at Serenity Choice Health through both in-person appointments and telehealth consultations throughout Illinois.
How the tablets work:
Mifepristone (first tablet): Blocks the hormone progesterone, which is needed for pregnancy to continue. This stops the pregnancy from growing.
Misoprostol (second tablet): Taken 24-48 hours after mifepristone, this medication causes the uterus to contract and expel the pregnancy tissue, similar to a heavy period with cramping and bleeding.
