What Is In-Clinic Abortion Aftercare?
In-clinic abortion aftercare refers to the immediate post-procedure care and recovery support provided at our clinic following your abortion, as well as the ongoing care instructions and follow-up appointments that support your recovery at home.
Aftercare begins the moment your abortion procedure is complete and continues through your scheduled follow-up visit. It includes:
- Immediate post-procedure monitoring at our clinic
- Vital sign assessment and recovery observation
- Management of immediate post-procedure symptoms
- Complete discharge instructions covering recovery, activity, and warning signs
- Prescription or recommendation for pain management medication if needed
- Contraception counseling and prescription if desired
- Scheduling of your follow-up appointment before you leave the clinic
- Access to our care team for questions or concerns during recovery at home
- In-person or telehealth follow-up appointment to confirm procedure completion
Immediate Post-Procedure Care at Our Clinic
Following your abortion procedure, you will spend time in our dedicated recovery area before being discharged. During this time our care team will:
Monitor Your Recovery Vital signs including blood pressure, heart rate, and temperature are checked and monitored. Our team ensures you are physically stable and comfortable before discharge is considered.
Manage Immediate Symptoms Cramping, nausea, light-headedness, and spotting are common immediately following an abortion procedure. Our care team is available to manage these symptoms, provide medication if needed, and ensure your comfort during recovery.
Assess Procedure Completion Your provider or care team will assess initial indicators that your procedure was complete before you are discharged from the clinic.
Provide Emotional Support Our team is available to provide emotional support and reassurance during your immediate post-procedure recovery. Patients are encouraged to take the time they need before discharge.

Free Abortion & Financial Assistance Options
At Serenity Choice Health, we believe that access to abortion care should not depend on a patient’s financial situation. Our team works to help patients find affordable options so they can receive safe and confidential care without unnecessary stress.
Patients with Illinois Medicaid may qualify for abortion services at no cost, including telehealth appointments, medication, and follow-up care. Our staff can help verify your Medicaid coverage and guide you through the scheduling process.
If you do not have Medicaid or cannot afford the cost of care, financial assistance may still be available. Serenity Choice Health works with trusted support organizations and abortion assistance programs that help eligible patients reduce the cost of services. These programs may help cover part or all of the cost of medication abortion, telehealth consultations, or related care.
